Eco Conscious Books For Kids Part 3

These are some of my favorite September recommendations for books on sustainability any child can read and get into! I’m excited for October to come so I can recommend even more, crossing my fingers to find a Halloween one!

Kids Fight Plastic: How to be a #2minute Superhero by Martin Dorey

Description: Have you got 2 minutes? That’s all the time it takes to become a #2minutesuperhero. Plastic is everywhere. It is in the rivers and it is in the sea. We need superheroes to fight plastic and help save our oceans.

Designed for older kids, this fun, informative, super active and exciting book keeps older readers in tuned with pictures and facts. The book also gives ‘missions’, more so tasks for them to be more sustainable as soon as possible. Since its more designed to connect with other people this superhero book is great to read with the family or with their friends.

This Is Our World: A Story About Taking Care of the Earth By Emily Sollinger

Description: Join the fun on this interactive journey while learning to clean the air, reduce pollution, recycle, and more. Nine double-sided puzzle pieces are included in this book so kids can create two different puzzles!

Adorable, interactive and really great with little ones to have their full attention. Set with peers, the book shows how classrooms or neighborhood groups can all get involved in being more eco friendly. This is a great way to dive into understanding sustainability in group efforts. Shows inclusivity as well, really great find especially since school has just started for some!

Santa Claus Is Green!: How to Have an Eco-Friendly Christmas
By Alison inches

Description: Santa Claus is having a green Christmas! In the spirit of Christmas giving, Santa shows boys and girls that they can give to others while giving back to the Earth — and have fun while they’re doing it! Simple things like riding bicycles to the store rather than taking a car, turning the tree lights off during the day and before bedtime, taking the tree to the community mulching center, using discarded newspapers for gift wrap, and making decorations and presents for one another rather than buying new ones, are all ways that kids can help Santa have a green Christmas. Printed on 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper, this humorous story is full of fun tips and ideas on how kids and families can celebrate a green Christmas. It also includes a sheet of more than 20 stickers made from 10% recycled paper to help spread holiday cheer and environmental awareness. A great way to celebrate white and green Christmas!

Honestly the description says it all, I don’t find many reads involving Santa Clause and sustainability. This is a rare and very lucky find, designed for little kiddos and older ones as well. They also have real-time facts about waste involving Christmas.

Let’s Find Out About Recycling
by Mike Goldsmith

The book didn’t come with a description but the name says it all. This read will walk your kids through on how the process of recycling works. From home, recycling plant to finished product, it will also explain why its important and what products can be recycled. Many books on this subject normally do not grab the attention of young readers but this one is a win for sure.

My Bag and Me!
by Karen Farmer

Description: Teach your children to be eco-friendly and conserve the Earth’s precious resources. This book follows a child and his re-usable shopping bag on a trip to the supermarket.

I love this one, it even comes with your child’s own tote bag. My kids are reminded to bring their special tote bags when we hit the grocery stores, which is an amazing step to helping them understand the crazy consumption of plastic.
